How to Become an Indian Air Force Officer in 2022? Indian Air Force (IAF) is one of the fourth largest Air Forces in the world. The Indian Air Force was first established on 8th October 1932. Indian Air Force is one of the strongest pillars of Indian defense. There are immense opportunities to join Indian Air Forces under technical and non-technical branches. IAF conducts exams like AFCAT, NDA for joining the Air Force as an officer.

The profession of the Air Force is very diverse and attractive. Joining the Indian Air Force is a dream of many young people, but many of them do not know how to crack the IAF exam, what are the qualifications and so on? Today, in this article we will share a detailed information on how to become an Indian Air Force Officer in 2022.

1.Branches in Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has divided the eligible candidates into several branches, such as Flying Branch, Ground Duty, Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical).

i)Flying Branch:- 

The flying branch is basically made up of three types pilots such as fighter pilot, helicopter pilot and transport pilot. Both men and women can join the Indian Air Force as pilots. The main task of the pilots is to control the fighter plane during the war and operation.

ii)Ground Duty Branch:-

The activity of the ground duty branch is to control tower and meteorological functions.The main responsibility of the ground duty officers is to inform the pilots about the weather conditions. The Ground Duty Branch has two distinct branches, the Technical Branch and the Non-Technical Branch.

The technical branch is included with aircraft and the Non-Technical branch is included with the Education, Logistics, Account, Medical, Administration, and Dental branch.

2.How to Become an Indian Air Force Officer after 12th?

After completing the 12th board exam, most of the students want to go to the defense sector. As a defense work, it makes them proud, because they can fight for the nation. However, very few candidates know about the process of joining the Indian Air Force. In this post, I am going to write about how to become an Indian Air Force Officer after 12th in 2022.

a. NDA(National Defense Academy):-

National Defense Academy(NDA) released the notification for the aspirants two times a year. The written test of NDA is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). The included syllabus in the written test is the general ability test and math. Only Indian male candidates between the ages of 16 to 19 are eligible to apply to join the Indian Air Force. To apply for the NDA, candidates must pass the 12th board exam with a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and English.

b.  Air Force Selection Board:-

The Air Force Selection Board or AFSB is the board that selects Indian Air Force officers. However, if you want to join the Indian Air Force as an officer, you have to attend the board interview. The main objective of AFSB interview is to test the personality, physical fitness, general awareness etc. of a candidate.

There are four Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) in Dehradun, Gandhinagar, Mysore and Varanasi. AFSB consists of two stages, Stage-1 consists of OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating Test) and PPDT (Picture Perception and Discussion Test) and Stage-2 consists of Psychological Test, Group Test and Personal Interview.

c. Medical Examination:-

Candidates must undergo a medical examination before joining the Indian Air Force. For which, IAF has sent candidates to the Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi, or the Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM), Bangalore for medical examination. Candidates will be selected after three years of training at the National Defense Academy (NDA).

3.How to Become an Indian Air Force Officer after Graduation

a. Through CDSE

If you miss joining the Air Force after the 12th, anyone can do it even after graduation. After graduation, candidates apply for the Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE), which is administered twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission.

Eligibility:-

  • Candidates must be an Indian citizen
  • Applicants must be a male candidates
  • Applicants should not be married
  • Applicants must be between 20 to 24 years of age
  • Candidates have to complete graduation in any stream
  • Candidates have to complete graduation from a recognized University.

b. Through NCC:-

Candidates can join the flying branch of the IAF through the National Cadet Corps or NCC. Both male and female candidates can apply on this route. Candidates can join the Indian Air Force if they complete their training and receive a “C” certificate from the Air Wing of the National Cadet Corps.

Eligibility:-

  • Candidates must be an Indian citizen
  • Applicants should not be married
  • Applicants must be between 20 to 24 years of age
  • Applicants should qualify (10+2) with Math and Physic
  • Candidates have to complete 12th with 60% marks
  • Candidates have to complete graduation in any stream
  • Candidates have to complete graduation from a recognized University.

4.Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branch

Air Force Common Aptitude Test or AFCAT is an an entrance test for those who want to join the Indian Air Force as Commissioned Officers, Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical Branch). This examination is conducted two times in a year. Both male and female are eligible for these branches.

Eligibility:-

  • Candidates must be an Indian citizen
  • Applicants should not be married
  • Applicants must be between 20 to 26 years of age
  • Candidates have to complete 12th with 60% marks
  • Candidates have to complete graduation in any stream
  • Candidates have to complete graduation from a recognized University.
