What is Diabetes: It is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy. All carbohydrate foods are broken down into blood glucose then insulin helps the glucose enter the cells.

Sometimes your body does not produce enough insulin or does or use insulin well, so glucose stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells. Untreated high blood sugar from diabetes can damage your nerves, eyes, kidneys, and other organs. There are no cure of diabetes but you can take steps to manage your diabetes and stay healthy. 

Types of Diabetes

There are mainly three types of diabetes – type 1, type 2 and gestational.

Type 1 Diabetes:- In this types of diabetes your body does not produce or use insulin well. The immune system attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. This types of diabetes people need to take insulin every day to stay alive.

Type 2 Diabetes:- At any age you can develop type 2 diabetes, even during childhood. It is the most common type of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, your body doesn’t make good use of the insulin it produces.

Gestational Diabetes:- It is a type of diabetes that consists of high blood glucose during pregnancy. Most of the time, this type of diabetes goes away after the baby is born. However, if you have gestational diabetes, you are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes later in life.

What is Diabetes Health Problems?

There are some health problems that can be caused by high blood glucose –

  • heart disease
  • stroke
  • eye problems
  • foot problems
  • dental disease
  • nerve damage
  • kidney disease

What is Diabetes: Symptoms 

There are some of the list of symptoms mentioned below –

  • increased hunger
  • increased thirst
  • weight loss
  • blurry vision
  • extreme fatigue
  • sores that don’t heal
  • frequent urination
