What is the Lok Sabha: The Parliament of India consists of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and the President of India. The Lok Sabha is the lower house of Parliament and is called the popular chamber of the Indian Parliament. Under the 1950 Constitution, its members are directly elected for five-year terms by the states’ regional constituencies. Lok Sabha is very important for IAS exam as it forms the foundation of Indian politics.

The Lok Sabha has 552 elected members; Of these, 530 members represented the states, 20 represented the Union Territories and 2 members were to be nominated by the President from the Anglo-Indian community. The president is elected indirectly by an electoral college composed of both houses of parliament & the legislatures of each state. But the real power rests with the Prime Minister, who heads the Council of Ministers.
